Rania Abouzeid
International reporter and author
“No Turning Back” draws on more than five years of reporting on Syria’s war and follows people caught in the country’s fragmentation. Abouzeid examines repression under Bashar al-Assad, the radicalisation of parts of the rebellion and the rise of Islamic State. She also reconstructs covert arrangements and foreign interests that influenced the conflict, resisting a single simplified narrative of winners and losers. Her contribution combines detailed political reconstruction with the experiences of civilians, prisoners and families whose lives were transformed by the war.
