Anatolii Sharii

Ukrainian journalist and video blogger; former Obozrevatel investigations editor

Anatolii Sharii (also known as Anatoly Shariy) headed Obozrevatel’s investigations section and in 2011 produced reporting with Oleksiy Kutiepov of the television channels 1+1 and 2+2. Documented subjects of their collaboration included psychoactive substances sold in Kyiv kiosks, police responses and illegal gambling. Representative materials are the Interior Ministry response to their reporting published by the newsroom on 14 June 2011 and Sharii’s own 18 June letter explaining his dispute with a police spokesperson. The ministry response confirmed an internal inquiry into possible warnings to sellers before a kiosk inspection; this does not establish that every allegation made by the reporters was judicially proven.
