Aida Alami
International reporter; contributor to The New York Times
Aida Alami reports on migration, racism, religion and human rights, connecting experiences in North Africa, Europe and the United States with their political context. In an IWMF-supported project, she examined Muslim communities' place in American public life, giving space to people often viewed through stereotypes. She contributed to “Our Women on the Ground”, a collection in which Arab women journalists describe their work and experiences of reporting the region. As a visiting professor at Columbia Journalism School, she addressed freedom of information, open data, digital surveillance and security, connecting reporting with questions about free expression.
