Alison Killing

Visual investigations journalist and architect

Alison Killing applies architectural expertise, geospatial analysis and three-dimensional modelling to issues that cannot be understood through officials' statements alone. She co-produced BuzzFeed News' investigation into Xinjiang's detention camp network, sharing the 2021 Pulitzer with Megha Rajagopalan and Christo Buschek. Her projects also include “Migration Trail”, a mapped, data-based account of migration to Europe, and research into Haiti's reconstruction after the 2010 earthquake. Through lectures and workshops, she shares open-source methods with others, demonstrating how the built environment can become evidence in a journalistic investigation rather than simply its setting.
