Christo Buschek
Data journalist and programmer; Pulitzer Prize co-winner
Christo Buschek combines programming with investigative journalism, developing tools to examine large datasets and document human rights abuses. He was part of the BuzzFeed News team whose investigation of Xinjiang's detention camps received the 2021 Pulitzer. Through his Mozilla-related work, he focuses on AI training datasets, their origins, errors and biases rather than stopping at manufacturers' promises. In public discussions and interviews, he advocates scrutiny of models, benchmarks and the interests behind technology, extending investigative methods to algorithmic systems that increasingly shape the information available to the public and the decisions made around it.
