Denys Bihus

Ukrainian investigative journalist; founder of Bihus.Info

Denys Bihus founded Bihus.Info, a newsroom investigating corruption, officials’ hidden economic interests and discrepancies between declared and actual wealth. In 2013 he launched the programme Nashi Hroshi with Denys Bihus, which developed into an independent investigative team. His contribution includes creating and presenting the programme and organising reporters’ work; collective findings should not be attributed to its founder alone. Representative work includes the team’s 2019 series “Army. Friends. Money”, examining defence procurement, and its February 2024 reconstruction of surveillance targeting the newsroom itself. In the latter, the journalists explained how security-camera recordings helped them reconstruct the installation of hidden cameras and identify people involved in the operation. Bihus received an individual NED Democracy Award in 2017. His candidacy recognises sustained scrutiny of power, developing document-based journalism and building a newsroom capable of continuing investigations under pressure.
