Gerard Ryle
Executive director, ICIJ
Gerard Ryle led the international ICIJ teams working on the Panama Papers, Paradise Papers and Pandora Papers. These projects combined leaked records with reporting across many countries to examine connections between powerful individuals, financial intermediaries and offshore companies. The Panama Papers exposed mechanisms enabling concealed wealth, corruption and other abuses, while ownership of an offshore company alone does not establish criminal wrongdoing. Ryle brought more than twenty years of Australian reporting and editing experience to these collaborations, with his contribution centred on organising the shared work that turns scattered documents into verifiable public-interest reporting.
